Does Social Media Marketing Even Work?

“Digital marketing doesn’t work for me.” I hear so many people say this. They want INSTANT gratification in the form of sales. It is sad that they do not understand the snow ball effect of well placed and consistent reminders of the value only THEY provide.

The truth is the core of marketing is and will always remain word of mouth and today social media provides the best way to amplify your platform. lf you are an author or entrepreneur new to social media marketing, here are some things you need to keep in mind –

1. Educate – What is your book or business about. Educate your audience about the field. Think about the VALUE your product provides.

2. Call to Actions are key – Your audience should know how to support you or how to get what they need or where to find you.

3. Make your information easy to find – Just like having business cards/ QR codes on hand, have links to your website, products, freebies easy to come across.

4. Insights are key – It’s not enough to see what more people like. What gets audience to go to your profile and learn more about you. Do more of that.

5. Diversify content – Images, videos, carousels. The algorithms keep changing so make sure you are leveraging all kinds of content. Email marketing, website, social media, influencers and more..

6. Be original – Stay inspired. DON’T copy. What do you have more information on that no one else has. Even if it is content someone else has posted. What makes your take unique on the same topic?

7. Nurture – Collaborate with peers, connect with engaged followers. Make sure you are working at building authentic connections and trust by being truthful.

And don’t fall into the “I need a big following” trap. A small following providing you word of mouth will still lead to sales…eventually.

Remember : It’s a marathon!
