Celebrating Our Anniversary as a Family

“What is an anniversary? “, my son asked when I told him we will be celebrating our 10th this year. His sister came over to listen.

“It’s the day your dad and I got married. ” The confused looks persist.

“Were we there?”

Hmmm .. I backpedal.

“Well, kind of. You know the day you were born is your birth day, right?”, his eyes light up in understanding. She nods along ; happy to hear the word ” Birthday”. I continue.

“Well, an anniversary is the day when a family is born. Before this day, mom and dad are like strangers. Then they become a family. Then the family grows are more people get added to it.”

He asks, “So she and I came after this anniversary?”

” Yes, and that is what makes it so special. It’s because if we didn’t have this day then our family would not have been there at all. Kids’ birthdays come after a mom and dad anniversary.”

He smiles satisfied. She is waiting to hear the word,” cake”.

” You know how every year we grow on our birthday? Like that this year our family is 10 years old. “

” So will we have a party ?? ” , he asks and we move onto discussing what we will do for this special day.

As their excitement grows, I wondered how to make their day extra special. I was already planning a mini surprise for my husband by making a book out of our personal blog which is chock full of memories of the past 10 years.

Our Personalized Books

For my choice, I went with hard cover books to go with the theme I was going for my hubby so I now had a book for each family member to enjoy.

For my daughter I chose the Princess Personalized Book. She loves princesses these days and the color purple. I even got to put her her name, a photo, qualities I want her to grow up with and names for castle and horse.

For my son, knowing he is picky I brought him into the secret. As excited as he was to be mde part of this “family surprise”, he was thrilled to see the many options available. His love of dinosaurs and adventure discovering things had him choosing the Dinosaur Egg Hunt. We got to put in his picture and some of his favorite things.

The best part for me was the Dedication page where I could personalize for the occasion.

I waited in anticipation for the books to arrive and when they did I was jubilant over how beautiful these books actually are. They are not just books but the perfect keepsakes that will remind my family of this occasion and how the kids were at this time in 2017.

When they arrived I just couldn’t wait to see their faces on opening their gifts. I wrapped them up in tissue and we had an unveiling to surprise them with it. Both kids were over the moon at their special books. They got such a kick out seeing their names and faces on books that tell them stories that they love.

We have had them for less than a week and we have read them at least 20 times. My son practices reading on them. My daughter now knows to recognize where her name is. She even remembers bits of he story. Even if I am not reading it, they will sit with these treasures and browse through looking at the pictures.

Now I cannot wait for the D day when we surprise my husband with the family book of memories.
