So, it’s been 8 months and I’ve still has been jerking awake to my son’s bucking and crying in the middle of the night. I get exasperated seeing the pain he’s in as his tummy TRIES to pas the gas and his body adamantly refuses to let it.
8 months of no sleep. You know how that feels if you’ve had a child like mine. Nothing seems to work. I have asked every person who may know the answer to ” How to help relieve my baby’s gas? “
Below are the answers I’ve got and tried and that have worked one time or another. My search for the perfect cure is still on.
* Classic – Hold the baby up, hugging him and pat his back firmly and
continuously between the shoulder blades.
* Baby Sit Up – Make the baby sit up, supporting the chin with one hand and patting his back with the other.
* Baby Rock – Hold the baby with his head over your shoulder. Rocking yourself gently pat his back from below to top in rhythmic motion.
* Mylicon – or any other gas medication. The mentioned dosage usually helps relieve the pressure on the baby’s tummy.
* Hing Ming – Make a thick paste of 2 pinches of asafoetida an
d a couple of drops of water and apply it in circular motion to the navel. This is specially useful when baby’s crying his lungs out from gas pain. It takes a minute to dry up. Hold the baby up till it does and wait for the magic to begin.
* Elevation Power – When sleeping keep the baby elevated. Either in a bouncer or using an elevated mat under his crib sheet or with a pillow or in the crook of your arm ( That’s my favorite place ).
* Jumping daddy – This was one of my hubby’s favorite. He was being the king of Burp knows best. Holding the baby upright in your arms walk around making jerking motions with your legs.
* Stair Master Baby – Holding the baby upright in your arms walk up and down the stairs.
* Belly rub – Rub baby’s belly in circular motions or up to down helping the process along. ( never really worked for me )
* Upside Down Baby – In a sitting position, keep baby on their tummy across your lap. Now pat baby’s back helping them soothe.
* Back Rub – This helps when baby’s just had their milk, gone to sleep and started stirring again to pass the you know what. Keep baby turned on one side and rub the back in motions going from up to down rhythmically.
* Formula Power – Formula for fussy/gassy babies helps at times. When you know in advance that this might happen, make sure they have some. My baby is totally dependent on mother’s milk so it’s extra effort to get him to have this. So I make sure he has some in his solids during meals.
* Solids NOT – The baby might have extra gas when starting solids. Ofcourse their whole system is changing. So try making the food a little watery putting in more formula/mother’s milk so that the transition is easier.
